Why most teams have more data than clarity and what to do about it

Elena Kovač

Every fast-moving team we have ever spoken to has the same problem.

The problem is not a lack of data. It never was. The average fast-moving team in 2026 has more data flowing through their tools than any analyst could process in a week. CRM data, analytics data, financial data, customer feedback, product usage data — all of it sitting in different places, all of it technically accessible, none of it telling anyone anything useful in the moment it is needed.

The result is a gap that costs teams more than they realise. Not just in time. In the quality of decisions made without the full picture. In the opportunities missed because the insight arrived three days after the window closed. In the confidence lost when you are making calls based on incomplete information and you know it.

The first thing most teams try is hiring. A data analyst, a data scientist, a business intelligence engineer. Someone whose full-time job is to sit between the data and the rest of the team and translate. This works up to a point. The analyst becomes a bottleneck. Every question becomes a ticket. Every ticket becomes a queue.

The second thing most teams try is dashboards. Build the dashboard once, update it automatically, let everyone look at the numbers whenever they need to. This also works up to a point. Dashboards answer the questions you knew to ask when you built them. They do not answer the questions that come up in the meeting.

The third thing most teams try is accepting the situation. The data exists. Getting to it takes too long. Most decisions will be made without it. This is the most common outcome and the most damaging one.

There is a fourth option. Build or use a tool that sits across all your data sources, understands plain language questions, and returns answers in seconds rather than days. A tool that does not require a data team to operate and does not require you to accept that the insight will arrive after the decision has already been made.
